This recipe has intrigued me for years and I've always wanted to make it but never really got around to it. I've seen this recipe on pinterest and various recipe sites and many comments stating that it's served alongside Christmas or Thanksgiving dinner. I have to say, this one had me confused a little. I renamed the recipe but if you google search it, it's called Strawberry Pretzel Salad. Salad? Huh? That's the part that confused me? If it really is a salad, then well.... that's my kinda salad! Put the pretzels in a baggie and beat them up :) Mix sugar, pretzels and melted butter all together. Press firmly in to a 9x13 dish. My 8 year old niece pretty much made this entire recipe herself under the watchful eyes of Moosey (the Moose) & Butterscotch (the horse) Bake until lightly toasted but no more than 10 minutes or the crust will be rock hard and impossible to eat. Once baked, remove from oven & allow crust to cool slightly, I then refrigerated it while I prepared the cream cheese portion. Spread the cream cheese mixture over the chilled base and chill again until set. Mix up the jello and chill allowing it to thicken every so slightly. Once everything is nice and chilly, pour the jello over the cream cheese mixture and layer on the fresh strawberries. I took this to a bbq and it was a huge hit. Salty, sweet & yummy! Strawberry Pretzel Dessert INGREDIENTS 1 1/2 cups crushed pretzels 4 tablespoons white sugar 3/4 cup butter, melted 3/4 cup white sugar 2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese 1 (8 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed 1 (6 ounce) package strawberry flavoured Jell-O® 2 cups boiling water Approximately 1 1/2 cups fresh sliced strawberries or 1 (16 ounce) package frozen**strawberries DIRECTIONS: 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Mix together the pretzels, 4 tablespoons sugar and melted butter. Press into the bottom of a 9x13 inch pan. Bake for 10 minutes, or until lightly toasted. Set aside to cool completely. DO NOT BAKE FOR LONGER THAN 10 MINUTES, crust will become too hard and inedible. 2. In a medium bowl, beat the sugar and cream cheese until smooth. Fold in whipped topping. Spread evenly over the cooled crust. Refrigerate until set, about 30 minutes. 3. In a medium bowl, stir together the jello mix and boiling water. Place in fridge and allow to slightly thicken. Pour over cream cheese mixture, add sliced strawberries. Refrigerate until completely chilled, at least 1 hour. **if you are using frozen strawberries add these to the jello after it has completely dissolved and then refrigerate allowing jello to slightly thicken. Enjoy! Ptintable recipe below
