It's no secret that I'm a fan of cheese especially a mild, creamy, buttery melt in your mouth cheese, like Havarti. Cheedar, schmeddar..... Havarti is the only way to go when making any grilled cheese sandwich. I've had a Havarti grilled cheese sandwich 3 times in the past week and each time making it a little different and each one so tasty that I can't pick a favourite - Let me share the 3 versions. Havarti, Pear & Preserves As with any grilled cheese sandwich start with 2 slices of bread and butter one side of each. Place butter side down in a med-high temp frying pan, spread on some preserves. Here I am using peach jam but strawberry, apricot, cherry and even blueberry work great. Now go ahead a layer on a pear, thinly sliced as well as some sliced havarti, it doesn't have to be pretty as it's all going to melt into an ooey gooey goodness soon enough. I like alot of pepper... Top with the other slice of bread and cook until golden brown, flip and cook until the other side isgolden brown and inside are full of melted goodness. Yup, so eager to eat it I just dove right in before taking photos. #bloggerfail A little sweet, a little creamy and a whole lotta yummy, sot of like dessert on toast. Ready for the next one?? Havarti & Pear with spinach Now that you have the grilled cheese basics it's easy, now go ahead and switch up the type of bread you use, I typically like varieties of rye but today I used and Italian loaf. This time I buttered my bread, layered on havarti, topped with slices of pear and a single layer of baby spinach. During the grilling of the sandwich the pear softens slightly, the spinach slightly warms and wilts and the cheese...oh that glorious havarti. Mmmm Mmmmm Mmmmmm.... Now ready for the third version? Havarti & Pear with honey Start with the basics again, this time I'm using rye bread, I layed on havarti, sliced pear and then lightly drizzled with honey, topped with the other slice of bread and grilled until both side are golden brown. Seriously - 3 versions and a million more to make... and me, I'm up for the challenge - oh yeah!!!
