Look how cute and festive these are and they are so simple the kids can make them. Bake up chocolate cupcakes, homemade or boxed mix - I won't tell. Once cooled, frost them with your favourite vanilla icing, homemade or from a can - shhhh mums the word. Then sprinkle on some coconut flakes to mimic snow and voila, you are ready to make the trees. I prefer the Merckens green candy melts but you can buy any brand of candy melts at Michaels, Hobby Lobby, Walmart etc. You'll also need pretzels sticks and some sprinkles. Let the fun begin! Place a large sheet of parchment or waxed paper on your countertop, lay out the pretzel sticks approximately 5-6 inches apart. Heat about a cup of candy melts in the microwave for 30 secs at 50% power, give it a stir and pop back in for another 15 scs or so - Do NOT over heat or they will be ruined, yeah I've learned this from experience. I then line a mug with a sandwich sized ziplock baggie, makes it easier to handle. Seal your ziplock and cut a tiny little bit off the corner. Now start drizzling your green melted mixture over the pretzels and into a Christmas tree shape. I make about 6 trees at a time and then go back and add the sprinkles while the green candy is still warm. Now you could skip the whole cupcake thing and package this up just like this as a hostess gift, addition to a cookie platter, a forest of sweet & salty. They take about 15 minutes to completely set and then you just left them off your paper and you are ready to go... or umm...eat the boo boo. More Christmasy cupcakes below, just click on the picture.
