As a child growing up I felt lucky that my grandparents lived with us, they had a totally separate basement apartment and it was the best experience ever. I remember watching Lawrence Welk, Mutual of Ohamaha's Wild Kingdom, Little House on the Praire or the Waltons with them. When TV time was over, sometimes I would rush upstairs, get in my pajamas, wash my face and run back down to have tea & toast with Nana & Grandpa. They always had a cup of tea before they settled into bed and most nights it was served with E.D. Smith lemon spread on toast, that was my favourite! Nana would make me a cup of tea, almost completely diluted with milk (for a child) and a little sugar along with a slice of warm toast....warm lemony toast that is. Nana with her pin curls, nighty and housecoat, grandpa in his matching pajama top and bottoms, me in my baby-dolls, sitting in their kitchen, at the table just winding up our day. I don't know if they ever realized how important those moments were and the impression they would leave on my life, heck at the time I never knew how meaningful a cup of tea & toast would be.
To this day, nothing calms me and melts my stress away like a warm cup of tea before bed. I miss them xoxo
