To me November 11th should be more than a moment of silence, more than a day off for and more than just sticking a poppy on your jacket to fit in. It’s a day to commemorate the Canadians who lost their lives in battle. It seems we are so disconnected from reality, we are plugged in, wired up and tuned out, commercialism has taken over and Christmas is set up and ready to go. I love, LOVE Christmas, the traditions, family time, the music, the sparkle and the twinkle of it all but can't we wait 11 days? Most large retailers mandate Christmas set up complete by November 1st, is it too much to hold off the Christmas carols & Christmas trees until after November 11th? Let's remember those who fought for our freedom & who lost their lives, lets show our respect to veterns, returning soldiers & those still fighting the battle, to their families, their mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers. We need to pack away the pumpkins, pause, take a breath, wear a poppy with thoughtfulness & be thankful we live in this free & wonderful country. Drawing by the talented Brian Fray
