Still with me? Good...whew! Thanks! Honestly brussel sprouts are delicious when prepared the right way (not boiled until they turned gray like Granny does them. But, before I present you with some recipes, let me ask you...... Do you now how brussel sprouts grow? I had never really thought about it but about 20 years ago a neighbouring farm was growing them, I couldn't believe my eyes. Now girls & boys, have a seat while I educate you on the often unloved, chock full of vitamin C and sulforaphane, cute little veggie called Brussel Sprouts.
This is Wool Hall Farm in Spalding, Lincolnshire and the plants you see are..... you guessed it Brussel Sprouts.
They look like palm trees with the coconuts growing up the trunk except they are a lot smaller, these guys grow 2 1/2 - 3 feet tall.
Did you know that 1 cup of these little gems has 16% of your daily fibre, 273% (yup that's alot!) of your daily Vitamin K which is an antioxident, and anti-infammatory ANDhas 160% of your daily recommended dose of Viatmin C. Huh...yeah... betcha didn't know that stuff eh?
I know when I say the B.S. word (Brussel Sprouts), people cringle, shiver, shrug their shoulders and run away screaming!! Honestly, it's not Little Shop of Horrors... not even close!
I think llittle Shop of Horror plants were poppies... but the brussel sprouts are taking a bad rap, I mean ..like... see the resemblance. Now that's scary!
Roasted or steamed with a little butter and pepper - yum, yum, yum! Click HERE for some recipes to get you hooked on this usually unloved veggie.
