I live in a part of Ontario, Canada that many Mennonite families call home. I feel blessed to be able to take a peek into their way of life, a life that seems simple, yet full of hard work. I love this photo below. Three boys barefoot and horsing around while following their father to another field. This same photo could have been taken 100 years ago. Harvesting the hay the old way - by horse, hand & hard work. From what I've observed, most Mennonites around here still farm the same way they they have for generations. I can't recall ever seeing modern farm machinery being used. A gathering. I do see some families in their traditional clothing in black vehicles, usually vans shopping at local grocery & thrift stores. Sometimes I'll see a horse tied up outside a bank or post office. The past and present together Once again, I count myself lucky to take in these views on a regular basis.
