I had seen this idea floating around Pinterest & thought I would give it a go, fun, easy, inexpensive & upcycled, can't get much better than that!

This is what you need:
-matte black spray paint
-clean empty coffee can or something similiar with a lid, I used a cardboard hot chocolate cannister for one hat.
-ribbon
-exacto knife
-glue gun
-assorted Christmas picks,greenery, bells etc.
-black foam core board (if you only have white, you'll have to paint it)
Everything was readily available at the dollar store, except the paint.

First I spray painted my clean cans & lids, allowing them to dry while I got everything else ready.

I found something round, the size I wanted, then I traced & cut out circles for the brims of the hats. I eyeballed this to ensuring that the brim was proportioned to the rest of the hat.

Once the circles were cut out, I used a sharpie to colour the exposed edges.

All ready for the fun stuff !

Martha Stewart never shows you stuff like this, I'm just tryin' to keep it real man. (do I sound cool?)

Glue the tin to the foam core, I put glue in the middle of the tin & around the edge working quickly before the glue dries.

Next add garland or greenery, I did this mainly to hide my messy glue job. Again, working with the glue gun making my way around the entire hat leaving a nice overlap to set the Christmas pick on.

Isn't it looking pretty? Now have fun, play around, use bits and pieces to create whatever makes you happy. I had only planned on making one hat but I loved it so much I made more !
